Welcome Letter

Dear Y.E.S. Parents/Guardians,
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself prior to the start of the new school year.  My name is Jill Young, your new full time school nurse at Yarmouth Elementary School.  I am thrilled to be here and look forward to developing relationships with you and caring for your children to ensure that they are safe, healthy, and ready to learn.
The majority of my nursing experience was obtained while working as both a staff nurse and then clinical manager in an emergency room in St. Louis for 13 years.  In those last few years, in addition to my full time job in the ER, I worked as a substitute school nurse in a K-12 school in southern Illinois. Most recently, since relocating to Maine last August,  I have worked as a long term substitute school nurse for Cape Elizabeth Middle School through December, and then was a clinical assistant at InterMed ENT.  Through these experiences, I have found school nursing to be my passion and am excited to be a part of the Yarmouth school faculty.
I would like to encourage both you and your child to stop by my office for a brief meet and greet during the open house on Thursday from 9:30-10:30.  Should your child have specific medical needs, I have already reviewed the current 504 plans that are in place, but am more than happy to set up a time to meet with you to discuss any further questions or concerns you may have.
Your child will be coming home with an emergency information sheet during the first week of school. Please make any updates to this form such as changes in address, phone numbers, emergency contacts, etc. There is also a brief section regarding allergies, medications and health issues.  If your child requires medication during school hours, over the counter or prescription, a medication permission form needs to be completed.  Prescription medications require the form be signed by both you (the parent/guardian) and your child’s physician. Please refer to the Administering Medications Policy on the Yarmouth School District website. The permission form is available on the District’s website or can be obtained from the office.
I plan to communicate with YES families through a monthly School Health Newsletter.  Should you have any questions or concerns related to your child’s health during the school year, please feel free to contact me.  Your child’s health is the reason that I am here.
